as of late, I have found it beyond difficult to discover, interpret and articulate a subject for myself and my audience. I feel as though I have been bombarded with too much content, that to decipher and appropriate it into a context that feels comfortable within myself is unachievable. thus I have decided to review my earlier written components for study applications as a way of reviewing everything inside of me to capture something outside of me. this will happen and as I have always unclearly stipulated, my blog is not something that should be regarded with consistency but rather longevity in it's most pure substance.

an ode to the submissive; the ironic re-creation of an archetype in fashion history.

as some may say, fashion is a reflection or representation of the times in which we live, however as a regarded past mentor describes, "fashion [rather than being a reflection] is synchronized and thus a component of our society and varying cultures". It performs as an advocation of our individual and collective ideals in all facets, from religion through to beauty.

the synchronized notion of 'beauty' in society is one that has constantly evolved and reformed upon itself. the ideals of beauty and fashion have changed as has the attitudes embedded within and projected from out of within. what has allowed for the constant change are the social revolts of ideas and thereafter the revolutions from such.

the submissive and oppressive attitudes towards gender have long been embedded within societies and cultures, as issue 21 of Wonderland magazine explores. the questionable man attired in corsetry, body-con shift dresses and cinch-waisted coats and jackets- it's more than the dandy!

as the year progresses towards tertiary applications, I will be collecting inspirational sources to help create and further solidify my ideas. I am hoping to apply for an unspecified design course within an unspecified institution, focussing on fashion design or similar. I love the notion of blending historical references with futurism ideals to create a product that can resonate with an established and alive individual yet can provide them with the guidance into the unknown. sounds like religion.

Sea of white string, white noise, white light. A depth and volume of purity and sanctity within a space of severe and soft surroundings, to deliver a moment of lost grounds and intimacy.

This was the most interesting interactive exhibition I have participated in to date. Featured at the Gallery of Modern Art in Brisbane, a room filled from the ceiling with white strands of string, precisely measured, distributed and cut to give one a sense of landscape and perspective- I can only gather?

Well I don't have the tendency to provide coverage of womenswear, however when I found this I could not resist. In fact, I was meaning to post these images months ago and by only stumbling on them for the second instance did I realise how much I love this shoot! A blurred reality of gender and the roles that they chose to play while also hovering towards a somewhat non-conventional ideal of beauty. While this editorial was produced in 1999, an era of fashion that can be best remembered for shear minimalism and short hair cuts, I find it important to not remain too referential and take it for it is, whether or not it is in the correct context or time. Garments featured in the editorial, range from Vivienne Westwood, Jil Sander, Oxfam, Rokit and Maison Margiela. Of all the featured garments, I would have to say that my favourite pieces are the Margiela felt vest, felt coat and leather zip-up vest (images 1,2,3), in addition to the Jil Sander Blouse (image 5).

finally!

recently featured online at dazed digital, part-time editorial photographer and soon-to-be veterinary surgeon student, Elizabeth Johnson articulates the balance between artistic photography and fashion. it is a pleasure to see another photographer eschewing the trend of simply photographing the disheveled youth and in particular, the girl barely past her years of pubescent development, throwing herself against a wall and ever so boringly inhaling those over 40,000 toxins present in a tailor-made cigarette. don't be mislead in what it is that I am against, smoking it is not, predictable and poor fantasy driven images based on a 'lifestyle' of edginess and a 'substance' of vapid character it is. thank the christ, thank the people.

RE: an ironic expression of inspiration

“Inspiration is pervasive but not a power

It’s a peaceful thing

It is a consolation even to plants and animals

Do no think that it is unique”

I sat, observed, read and then begun contemplation, a personal comprehension and articulation of the material that lay presented on my table. A simple, repetitive and somewhat bleak image showing parallel lines outlined with acrylic and pencil on canvas, to be accompanied with an extracted phrase was the material, which held my mind captive. After reading the quote I felt as though I was a still and cold reflection to the accompanied, referenced image. I soon gathered and brought myself to the realisation that the imagery was in fact a clear symbolic representation of the message that was held within and projected out from within the text. I was left undoubtedly feeling that the author, Agnes Martin, had raised an avant-garde point, addressing that the generally believed idea of inspiration being formed within each individual and holding an undeniable unique quality is in fact, nothing more than a universal ability. As Martin ignites the idea with the notion of inspiration being pervasive rather than a power, I began to understand. Continuing to repeatedly read over the text and look into the, lack of, detail within the painting, I delved further in my attempted understanding of the very simple ideology being broadcasted. It soon became very apparent that Martin was merely suggesting that people are only as bleak as the detailing and as similar as the repetitive parallel lines in her image. Advocating that, our ideas, our inspirations, are only simple forces with qualities that each person shares with the next. Furthermore, Martin introduces irony by minimising the force of inspiration to a basic instinct in her humorous reference to the consolation that it provides to other such living organisms as plants and animals, in the act of inspiration, to perform the function of drawing in breath. It is a blatant and very ironic message stipulating that inspiration is a hyped terminology, overused by people in an act to place emphasis on ideas that are not as unique as the withholder believes.

It was at this point I laughed. I wasn’t completely in belief that my comprehension and articulation was anything close to the texts and painting’s true meaning, but it certainly led me to contemplate a new feeling of the high regards that are held with one’s ‘inspiration’, particularly those of the creative type. Enlightened I was not, simply as I had no feeling of an affirmation or actualisation within myself, but it was moreover a mere stimulation of an ironic and humorous idea.

featured in an upcoming in a dazed and confused issue is an intriguing article that puts question to a collective of the few boundary pushing menswear designers who master the skill of walking the line in balance of holding commercial viability and thrusting artistic experiment. designers in discussion include Raf Simons, Domenico Dolce, Lucas Ossendrijver among others and should provide an interesting shared dialogue of experiences and outlooks.

aside from the article, that is yet to be published, the styled shoot is a prepossessing depiction by one of my cherished stylists, Robbie Spencer, of the exact talent that these select creators harness.

higher states, newfound rapture?

this is catholic and a church for catholic's.

i am not religiously inclined to any one ideal of a higher state of being, instead I have an extreme interest in exploring and learning about the foundations and essence of each.
perhaps it's a medium utilised as a voyage into an inner sanctum of stability in one's self. if so, then i only advertise that I myself have been searching for that guiding light in amany of circumstances. juxtoposedly however i do believe that one should believe in their singular being, or at the least not loose sight of this. should one not only look to a 'higher state of being' for guidence, but also keep hold of the 'evident state of being'?

perhaps we should all seclude ourselves into a black-wall, evenly squared space, isolated from any other being to create our own ideal, our own higher state.

Outdated post, timeless feature.

This was meant to be posted WHILE I was first in Melbourne, but as most bloggers, time had got the better of me and prevailed me from sharing this amazing exhibition.

Held in old and worn hostel rooms about the locally famous Carlton Club was a room to room feature of designs, stories and moods. Presented by a collective group of graduating RMIT fashion students, the garments were incredibly innovative and executed with an intense hit of personal character and both light and dark noted charm.

While I didn't photographically document all designer's work, with only limited film for such, I decided to select the work of my most admiration and fondness.

The works shared above are by design students Kitty, Cami (whom I have never actually met- yet) and Nadia. Their creations were capturing. They each held an unavoidable sense of intrigue.

Kitty's work was a beautiful exploration of the form and figure, an askew observation if you will. While I only have one image of her collection, I strongly advise that this readership further enjoy her masterful ideas transcended onto, into and around fabrication on her site, Common.Place.

To polarize the intriguing beauty ideal of Kitty's designs, I found myself in the 'Dungeon' which presented the works of both Cami and Nadia. The title of the 'Dungeon' only seemed fitting once you stepped within the parameters of these two girls' world. A cohesive collision of creations that, personally, presented a tamed vulgarity and definite dangerous allure. The pieces were extremely desirable but with the room's atmosphere and mood you were left feeling as though if to touch would incur an unfortunate pain- or perhaps it was the spikes and cables placed purposefully throughout? However while there was this feeling of danger, there seemed to be a presence of higher light and goodwill- note the first image of the room with the four of Cami's design upon the blocked window frame. Whether this too was strategic or a coincidence of my film's capture, I am anticipating to discover. To view more of their work, view their new collaborative initiative NO DI$COUNT.

Before I obliterate myself into obscurity tomorrow, I promised myself to post at least three installations of events from my Melbourne trip (as I maintain to mention each time).
This outing was one of my most treasured. The store is titled Wunderkammer specializing in "scientific curiosities, artefacts and ephemera". AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING.
We spent close to two hours within one confined store, examining the taxidermy, scientific instruments and and scientific books. I have planned to purchase my very first pigeon skull when new stock is installed, however I could have nearly walked out with a framed skeleton of a bat specie! When the skull arrives into the clutches of my hands and pinned upon my bodily form, I promise to share the excitement!
But for now, I wish you good evening and best wishes for the holiday season. Further installations will be shared in time.

Extended exposures, still movements, prolonged moments.
Shadowplay serves as my second installation of my Melbourne adventures.
Images were taken at the Collingwood Convent and Children's Farm. A truly remarkable establishment, juxtaposed with wholesome and pure intentions within the walls and beyond the artifice of the dark featured church and its wings. They host nightly banquets which attract a diverse array of crowds. You enter the eating rooms with a table of loud punks seated next to a young family and an elderly couple, it was amazing to witness that one space could leave predisposed and presumed conflicts at the gates to create an environment rich in warmth and appreciation.
On a more random note, a stranger asked to sit with us who went by the name of Aladdin. Need I say more?

This is the first installation of my images from my Melbourne visit. From a morning of sun's rays entering delicately through the white window. Sleeping below the windowsill, turned to the side and laying with the lense open. Nothing too exciting to see just yet, but there are many installations to preview. It will take time, scanning in film produced images is time consuming.

The ideal of beauty for both men and women have continued to shift over the course of history in fashion and most recently modeling agency , Nine daughters and a Stereo, has executed in making the unusual come to be desirable. The above models are a part of the fresh faces acquired and labelled 'The Wild Boys'. But it brings me to question whether this fresh ideal of masculinity and it's beauty is more attainable than the previous or is it a matter of diversification in ideals?

Regardless of this argument, seeing the piercings and looped chains from such confirms my desire and plan to further the amount of metal within and throughout my head/headspace.

Sculpturally encapsulated and extended upon the male form, a contrived protection based on the predisposed limitations of their mythical inhabitants and the comfort only this can bring as pursued by their shadows.

The "blank mind and instinctual following" by Spanish designer and artist Manuel Albarran is what has led to this balanced work that presents a tie between art and fashion, a tie that is again becoming popular to the masses. As if a relic dug from beneath the past it features a layering of thin delicacy in brass metal that is raw and stands outside of the ever evolving trend in sculptural design in fashion with it's outlook sighted towards the future.

Stories can be created and shared, all to the eventuated and expected climax and all of which are followed through with a rapid decline that results as a plateau of resolute. Long-winded boredom, unrelated repetition and predictable halts.

I tend to turn away from any preaching on life and it's expected unexpected, but it's all that has been occurring to myself in the past three weeks- the expected unexpected that is.

A holiday became a permanent residency this December when I decided to arrange a one-way ticket to Melbourne for a presumed three-week period. Flash forward and I find myself sharing roofs and shelter with friends and relatives of theirs, searching for establishment in a city where unfamiliarity is constant and culture is paramount. To avoid becoming a narrative of happenings that are not that frivolous or outrageously youthful and exciting, I merely ask for you to wait until I grasp of sense of individual subsistence and singular survival practices.

A documentation of occurrences in places with people has been undertaken and when the rolls are developed and thereafter scanned, imagery will appear of this outdated experience.

the male embellishment. once was represented as armor is now the representation of feminisation upon the masculine form. a softer touch to the raw aesthetic of the male; is this stereotypical gender isolation or is this the natural truth?

titled 'We can be heroes', this shoot explores such masculine heroic figures as sailors and soldiers among others who evoke the rebellious spirit of 1950's film stars.

the horror that wasn't

Sorry for the delay my small group of readers, but the trickle you tasted earlier has finally arrived. Halloween was nothing spectacular and there was certainly no horror that played out, sigh. While some of my contemporaries (Vlad) seemed to have an eventful evening, I on the other hand stole candy from my neighbour's children and went to a casual 'politically incorrect' party. Of course I couldn't think of anything amazing that was both politically incorrect and grotesque in the one day I had available to prepare for the party, so a friend and I created two characters and a poor plot of our hypothetical lives. Basically, we were religious cult siblings who were murdering, consuming and stealing identities of strangers while having an illicit sexual affair (circa 'Cruel Intentions' with our shared love of 90's pop culture). I guess the incestuous relationship is the politically incorrect theme and all other traits were grotesque. It may sound interesting but in all honestly we could not be fucked to sew a more appropriate costume together. Instead we wore tattered and torn monochromatic clothing and religious paraphernalia, chains and animal organs wrapped and hung from such. We afterwards thought that we enjoyed our character creation so much that we would contemplate dressing as such on our Melbourne trip in coming weeks!

Inspired by the 1983 film 'The Hunger', American sportswear and traditionally menswear designer Tim Hamilton delivered an unexpected and intriguing womenswear collection at the Spring/ Summer 2010 showings in Paris. The collection featured 28 looks in block hues of white, black and red, and worked to a fluid silhouette that while strictly raptured the body's form, the fabric also trickled and flew from. The collection displayed a very prominent minimalist element, possibly through the strict colour palette, but also displayed other design details in drape and suiting. While this is all very interesting, I'm sure, the collection had me somewhat, stylistically, yearning for as much as his inspiration (Catherine Deneuve) did for blood of her prey.

with views and textures that captivate and throttle the 'humanistic' senses, come to the lands of rekindlement between nature and behaviours

where your steps show a degradation and layered damage upon all, except one's lone, self, only, insubordinate self

this can best be explained and described as a cultural aesthetic of idealistic representation. the patterns created are used to evoke narratives, messages and express identity.

essentially the scars represent ethnic groups, political status, family origins, religious following, social status and even personal beauty.

but there is much more depth of such a practice. the markings lead into the laws of attraction and the measure of strength while also 'possibly' serving erotic pleasure with the stroke of the sensitive markings.

as i ran down a long winded concrete path alongside the river with loud and abrupt waves viciously embracing against the piercing rock embankment, i was contemplating the ideals of bondage.

if one was to remove the subjectivity of bondage, one could perhaps see that even bondage garments have a purity and romanticism about them.

it could be seen that bondage pieces show a representation and symbolism of the slavery that is induced and encountered by each individual by their high strung sexual drive.
